For Better, For Worse

For Better, For Worse

Seems like in today’s society more and more marriages are ending in bitter divorce. For many reasons, alcoholism, cheating, finances, difference in opinion and many more. But there was once a time when the “I Do’s” were said that  two precious people were head over heels in love with each other. The world stopped, no wasnt an answer, forgiveness was deep-rooted in their hearts and love was flowing through every ounce of their bodies. But what seems to happen over the days, months and years? People change, they always do, life changes, things happen…life happens. For better, for worse happens.

I’ve been with my husband, Robbie for almost 10 years and we are not the same two people as we were the day we first met. Young, vibrant, eager for everything. Our finances have changed, homes have changed, kids, family matters, work, looks, drive, personalities have all changed. We have evolved into a lifestyle that includes running a real estate brokerage together, 4 kids, 3 dogs and a world of trials and tribulations. But during the last 10 years I can’t sit and say that divorce hasn’t ever crossed my mind because it has..several times. But usually the thought always came into theory when we were going through our “For Worse”. It’s amazing how our minds are geared during those times to just want to give up because it seems so much easier to just let go and move on. But in reality it’s not just letting go…those problems don’t go away just because you want to give up. They will follow and manifest until they are resolved. Over the years, we have learned to solve most our erratic problems together. Now I’m not saying that we always agreed or I was always right or he was always right. But we’ve grown to know each other so well that we know when its ok to back down and accept that we are truly looking out for each other. Going through life solving life’s biggest problems together…for better, for worse.

Most of my relationships before Robbie I gave up…walked away. It was the easiest thing to do and of course age had a lot to do with it. Contemplating do I really want to spend the rest of my life with this person? It’s not fair to them or to me. But there was something about Robbie that made me want this to work. Over the years he has proven to me that there was a reason why I invested so much of my time in him. He loves me for me…all of my faults, my stupid mistakes, my erratic decisions…he loves me “For Worse”. It always easier to love someone “For Better” and everyone wants to just focus on the “For Better” yet things are never always perfect. It’s so hard to want to love someone during the “For Worse”. Now I never physically acted out and demanded a divorce but I have voiced the thought to him. It’s the side of me I cant stand sometimes…the brutually honest side. Yet somehow through the grace of our love for each other we’ve worked thorough it. The sun doesn’t set without me telling him that I love him. Everyday I look for him…I seek to hear his voice. I have a dire need to hear his forgiveness, his mercy, his friendship. And then there are days I want to be alone…but then again I couldn’t imagine him not being there. Theres not that “perfect” person that’s out there. They dont exist. Never have, never will.  But there is that person that’s out there that God made for you. It wasnt until the last few months Robbie and I have discovered what was missing from our marriage, our relationship. God…not religion…but God. The sweet mercy and love that only He can provide in marriages and in healthy relationships. We are still growing in our faith and relying more and more on Him….but through prayer our marriage has strengthened. The “For Worse” doesnt seem as bad when you have direction.

I begin to wonder if our marriage would have started this way if we wouldn’t have had so many bad days through the years. Now  I honestly can’t sit here and pin point one of our horrible disagreements but I can name hundreds of good times we’ve shared. Weve grown, weve changed, weve fallen deeper in love. Now Im not condoning physical or emotional abuse…Ive been in that type of relationship before. Leave…it never stops.  There will ALWAYS be bad days…but now we are better prepared for those days. So before you give up…walk out… say something you’ll regret, remember that you once thought the world revolved around this person. Before you say they’ve changed…look at yourself because you have also changed. Is it really worth walking out on, giving up, not trying, not forgiving? Remember you are forgiven EVERY SINGLE DAY. You are loved EVERY SINGLE DAY. You have mercy poured upon you EVERY SINGLE DAY. For Better….For Worse.

5 Home Inspection Red Flags

5 Home Inspection Red Flags A home inspection is invaluable to your buyers, especially because it can pinpoint problems that are potential deal breakers. Help your clients avoid buying a white elephant—and incurring expenses that come with it—by giving them a heads up about these particular issues. Termites Once termites make themselves at home, getting rid of them is tricky. The sooner they are detected, the less damage done. Termites can come back, so advise your clients to hire a professional pest control expert to keep termites away for good. Drainage problems. Poor drainage can lead to rotting wood, wet basements and major mold growth, which can spell long-term moisture issues. Let clients know they can help prevent water damage by replacing the gutters or correcting the grading. However, that may not be enough to solve bigger drainage problems. Cracked or crumbling foundation. While older homes have lots of charm, their foundations can become weak or damaged over time. Make sure your clients know the expense of repairing a foundation can range from moderate to incredibly expensive. Worn roofing. There’s a huge difference in price between a roof repair and a roof replacement. If asbestos is a factor, the expense is generally greater due to costly disposal and containment processes. Toxic materials. Toxic finishes, like lead, paint and Chinese drywall, can lead to expensive repairs. Chinese drywall is a relatively new material that was used mostly between 2004-2005. It gives off sulfur gases, which can lead to illness as well as damage to home systems. The fix is to have it completely removed and replaced at a cost of about $40/sq. ft. Conversations with a 14 year old boy….

Some nights, less than many, I am graced by the sweet presence of my middle boy, Pierce. Tonight was one of those sweet memorable nights. For literally 2 hours he laid piled up in my bed snuggled under the covers like the little boy that once use to crawl up and sleep next to me at night. But this little boy now stands a towering 5.5 inches taller me, he’s 5’10. And it’s just not cool to sleep with mom anymore. Most of our conversation consisted of answering “what if?” Questions… Would you want to live in a bigger house…. Don’t you know we already have too much stuff…and the purity ring..Now this struck a cord in my heart. He proceeded to tell me that one of his little buddies got one. But his little friend didn’t want it. Pierce also said it’s not like anyone can make you be pure. I held his sweet little hand and explained that the ring is just symbol to remind you of the promise you make to God. Do you understand what that promise is? Yes, mama I do. It’s to not sleep with anyone before marriage. I gently responded back to him that you don’t have to wear a ring to make that promise but in the days to come there are going to be girls that will be willing to give you anything you want. But it’s your responsibility to try and not fall into these temptations. Explaining the meaning of true love wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. But explaining the outcome of irrational decisions was. By the end of the conversation I do feel as if he had a better understanding not just about promises to God, but promises he must keep for himself. When I look at him I still see that little boy….

Condemnation vs. Conviction

God laid it on my heart to share this… I know its long…but its important…Ever since Ive started my walk..I have tripped…on more than one occasion. Its like a new born child trying to walk, but continuously falls and sometimes flat on their face. This Sunday in church, a woman by the name of Lisa sitting two rows in front of me turned around and said , “Kelly?” Yes… Im Lisa…you called last week about needing some direction and guidance. You just got baptized, right? Yes mam I did. I recieved your message that you left the church. And God laid it on me to take the message. I remember you from Growth Track. Church services went through their normal routine and afterwards she wouldnt let me get away. She gently grabbed my hand and asked what I needed. I proceeded to tell her that for the last 2 months I have poured my heart into following Jesus and praying everyday, spending time in the Word…studying, doing a womens bible study…but yet still I fail, I fall, then its followed with a HORRIBLE guilt that overwhelms me. More than it ever did before… I know us Christians are not perfect, we are born into sin. She reexplained all this to me….I know I know… but I allowed Satan and his ways to pull me from God….I allowed Satan to win…not because of the sins I committed but because of the horrible condemnation on myself. And thats when she explained Condemnation vs Conviction…. it hit home… I now understand and know how to prepare myself…. She also explained to me that its a GOOD thing that I can recognize the sin and desire to be better. And that right now its important to have a mentor…because Im just not strong enough to be out on my own…and its ok. If we were all perfect we wouldnt need the love and mercy of our God.

What is condemnation?

Condemnation comes from Satan and is meant to tear you down. Condemnation continually points out what a failure you are, and how badly you’ve messed up. Condemnation is showing you the problem, but avoiding the solution.

Jesus did NOT come to condemn the world (John 12:47). There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Satan on the other hand is KNOWN for accusing the brethren (Rev 12:10).

Why won’t you ever hear God telling you what a failure you are? Because Jesus said, “I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.” (John 12:47)

What is conviction?

Conviction is known in the Bible as Godly sorrow. God’s Word tells us that Godly sorrow is what leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). Condemnation tells you, “You are such a failure! Look at what you did!” while conviction tells you, “Come to me… and I will forgive you!”

Not only is God willing to forgive your sins, but He longs (deeply desires) to do so! Isaiah 30:18, “Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him.” (NASB)

1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.”

Romans 2:4, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”

Conviction shows you the answer to your problem. Conviction shows you the blood of Jesus that wipes away your sins!

What is the difference?

Conviction shows you the answer (the Blood of Jesus, which washes away sin), while condemnation shows you the problem (the sin, the past and your failures). Condemnation shows you the problem, but conviction shows you the answer.

Condemnation shouts, “Your past! Your sins! You loser!” But conviction shouts, “The Blood of Jesus washes away sins! Come to Jesus and be forgiven of your sins! You can be forgiven! Your sins and past don’t have to be a part of you anymore!”

Understanding the nature of God’s forgiveness

It’s so important to understand the nature of God’s forgiveness and His desire to wash us clean from our pasts. The Forgiveness of Sins is a great teaching that will show you the nature of God’s forgiveness

Management Made Easy in 3 Steps

Brett Powell

1. All is Well that Begins Well: You gotta hire the right people – those whose behavior, prior to their employment with you, demonstrate passionate allegiance to your organizations’s core values. How much time is wasted in managing people that shouldn’t have been hired in the first place?

2. Manage by Sweet Spotting: Your organization has legitimate needs – opportunities to be leveraged and problems to be solved. Your staff have personal gifts and passions that they bring to work every day. Sweet Spotting means assigning authority and responsibility in a specific opportunity or problem that aligns to the passions and gifts of your staff. Loose them and let them go – management made easy! Its so simple, I feel like I’m insulting leaders that are reading this blog. My apologies!

3. Create Leaders, not Followers: Tom Peters may not have originated this idea but he made it popular. Your role…
